The Eighty-Sixth Day of Winter
Ever since we flew over the big lake in Madison and saw
footprints crossing the middle of the lake, the idea has been building that it
would be fun to hike it. We’ve seen people cut across the lake, using it like a
big shortcut to the walking trail that rims it.
The problem is, we know enough to be cautious about strolling out onto frozen lakes, but not enough to know when it is safe. It has got to be pretty solid since fishermen have parked their trailers out on it and had full blown parties out on the lake, but we’ve also had a couple of days above freezing lately. Today it is cold enough that we might be willing to try it, but we’re definitely a house of sickies today. Maybe next year.

Wait.
Is that the first time I’m actually looking forward to something
about another Wisconsin Winter?
