Themed Living

It may come as a surprise to you, but occasionally I find myself without anything noteworthy to say about Life in the Slow Lane. Of course, the lack of noteworthy sayings is precisely why this blog carries this particular name.

But recently I have come across many blogs that meet their posting quota through themed days. Sharing tips and recipes and books read and books to read and yellow card questions and found license plate numbers and drawings by brilliant six year olds.

I've seriously considered joining ranks with a few, but are you interested in knowing how to make a BAT sandwich (Bacon, Asparagus, Tomato) or how to drown out noisy neighbors with a turbo fan or that I just finished reading (and reviewing) a book about being a wife and mother? (My reviewing this book is on par with handing out marital and parenting advice... I have so many years of experience to draw from.) And I seem to be suffering a severe lack of yellow card questions, brilliant six year olds, and license plate numbers. (Where I live there are too many personalized plates.)

No, no. Perhaps you all should help me think of a theme to help me meet my quota.

Mmm, actually, bacon, asparagus, and tomato sounds pretty appetizing to me! I love asparagus. Which I realize probably puts me in the minority of people in the world. I also love brussels sprouts... again, weird.

The sandwhich was quite good, actually. I baked the asparagus with the bacon and then cooked the bacon longer to make it more crispy. But sadly, saying that I ate a BAT sandwich doesn't sound quite right.

You could do an interior decorating theme, starting with the significance of the color change on your blog. Or have I suddenly become color-blind like two of my sons?!!?

I was feeling the need to do some spring cleaning and, since my room actually has had an observable floor for the last week, I had to look somewhere else to clean. The obvious solution was my blog. Besides, everyone else is changing their blog, I felt tremendous peer pressure.

If you ever decide you need six year old artwork, Josh is six and creates "art" at the drop of the hat. Maybe not as genius as "Cat Draws Boy", but after the good laugh, I thought you could probably analyze genius into Josh's drawings as well.

Amtrak Adventuring

Trying to see it all, 2011 I may never look down the aisle of an Amtrak train without remembering a baby bouncing, holding fast to the seat as the train rocked and bounced even faster. All the world over, trains carry a reputation for efficiency and frugality. That has never been my experience with Amtrak.  The Adventure Begins, June 22, 2011 Thirteen years ago (almost to the day) our little family set out on our first Amtrak adventure. We thought three weeks touring the United States on a train with an infant made so much more sense than the alternative. For the longest time I thought “Ebenezer” was a cup. Not just any cup, mind you, one of those old drinking vessels that might also be called goblet or chalice. My reasoning, you see, was all based on the hymn, “Here I raise mine Ebenezer, hither by thy help I’m come.” To my little girl ears, it sounded like someone was proposing a toast, glass in hand to having made it so far. I know better now, but I still feel as if I am far more likely to toast how far I’ve made it than to set a large stone on end. But truthfully, I’m not very likely to do either. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not slighting the role God has had in bringing me as far as I am.
